Bakuriani is one of the winter resorts in Georgia. Winter months are snowy. Sometimes it snows from December to March. The history of Bakuriani starts from Borjomi. Borjomi mineral water became popular in XIX century for its medical features. In 1890 Industrial bottling of “Borjomi” started. In 1898-1901 Borjomi-Bakuriani a narrow railroad was built. Bakuriani is built up by the lava flows from the Mukheri volcano. The region around Bakuriani is covered with coniferous forests. In 1902-1910 a Botanical garden was built on Kokhta Gora slope under the direction of Rolov and Phomin.Kozlovski, a hospitable director of Botanical Garden, becomes a supporter of beginner skiers. There was skiing boom in Europe that time and Giorgi Nikoladze, who had just come to Georgia, first brought skiers with him. 1935 is a birthday of Bakuriani as a skiing center. On January 6, 1935 aSchool of Mountain – Ski and a House of Physical Culture were opened. Bakuriani was called “the capital city of Soviet -ski”. In 1960 45 m length ski-jumps was built and later another 75 m length one. There was the first ropeway in the Soviet Union. It is unbelievable, but till 1954 skiers walked up to the top of Kokhta Gora.
Today there are good conditions for skiing in Bakuriani. There are 16 ski-tracks-easy and difficult. On clear days CaucasusMountain is visible from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea from Kokhta Gora, which is 21554.4m above sea level. In 2008 Didveli ski-track was opened in Bakuriani. Only two cable cars work there. Caucasian Ridge is seen from Didveli. You can also take horse-rides, horse-drawn sledges, and snowmobile too. People of all ages can have a fun here.
Bakuriani is the place for year-round fun. Having a holiday here is useful and interesting: coniferous trees, mineral springs, the unique nature and cultural monuments of Borjomi gorge is guarantee of a good health and mood.
